Pruning esplanier trees

Hi, I'm a new member so hope that I've posted this in the right place.

I'm no gardener at all, so please be patient!

These images show my neighbour's esplanier trees. She is elderly, and has given me permission to cut them back (and reduce the height).

Should I be using any particular technique or, given that it will grow madly over the coming months, just take 6 inches off the top with my hedge trimmer?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Jon

    Welcome to the forum.
Sorry no one has come to your aid but I think the term  esplanier usually refers to fruit trees. I have no idea what your neighbours are but they look way to big for a fruit tree.
If they are ordinary trees, such as hornbeam they have been pleached which might help you find out what to do with them. Sorry I can't be of more help.
