Putting the price up so high that you are unlikely to sell any is used sometimes by eBay sellers to keep their sales ranking if they are out of stock etc. The item stays visible and the price goes back down when they have new stock!

I always try and find these in the local flea markets. Don't mind the odd bump as log as they have their rose. However, the last one I saw was going for 20€ which I thought was a bit steep for someone's junk.
Some perisher's been buying up all the enamel stuff too - steamers, colanders etc that I like as herb pots.
