If it's in a container, you could try it and if it looks unhappy, you could move it.  Is it very dark or is the light good but with no direct sunlight? We have one that does well where there is very little direct sunlight but it's still quite light
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • I'd also question the placement...is it maybe getting too much sun? As it looks like a purple/red leaves variety, they tend to scorch the most from excessive sun exposure. Being in a pot at least gives you the chance to move it easily. I did just move my Atropurpureum that got excessive sun damage last summer because of me repotting it in a higher pot. Fingers crossed the new location will work better. Keep it well watered and remove any dead wood...it will not do it any harm.
The tree is in shade all morning but then pretty much in full sun all afternoon. Unfortunately there’s not really anywhere else it could go, as the yard just isn’t that big. Possibly it’d help if it were a bit closer to the house or the tree just over the wall.

The sun from mid day onwards is the hottest, so you really don't want it out in that. Late afternoon sun is fine, and morning sun is not too bad, providing it's not getting it very early, when any frost can then cause a problem when the sun warms up and thaws it.
If you have any other planting, in pots or the ground,  which can provide a bit of shade, that will help.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Sorry totally missed this! I’ve moved them where they seem to get light around mid morning and mid afternoon but main thing is they are sheltered from the wind! Pruned then as per Fairygirl said :) and watch them (hopefully) thrive
