Coreopsis - spring tidy?

Mr. Vine EyeMr. Vine Eye Posts: 2,394
Good morning, I have several Coreopsis early sunrise which I grew from seed last year and flowered brilliantly and over a very long period.

They survived winter and already have new flower buds on. But they look a bit tatty/messy and seem to be asking for a trim.

Are these plants that respond well to cutting back? Is this the time to do it? How far back can you go and expect them to regrow?

Thank you!

If there are just some tatty looking, slightly woody stems, and you have growth lower down, just remove those stems. I've just done some rudbeckias as there's a wee clump of growth at the base now.
    Have you got a pic?

I quite roughly chopped them back by halfish. They're growing back nice and green and bushy with lots of flower buds.
