Rock Rose? I don't think so.

It has just produced two bright yellow flowers!

Did you find out what it was in the end? Now you mention yellow flowers, I wonder if it could be Jasminum Mesnyi, Primrose Jasmine.

Here is a photo I have just taken and there are loads of buds.  And to think I nearly dug it up!

The mystery continues. Seeing the flowers, I'm starting to agree with Fidgetbones, I wonder if it could be Helianthemum Nummularium, which is called Rock Rose. The leaves may have grown like that due to the lack of sun or soil being quite rich?

Yes, Helianthemum nummularium… I suspect either the variety 'Golden Queen' or 'Sterntaler'.. I have both, along with 'Wisley Primrose' but this last one has lighter foliage..

...this is 'Sterntaler' below.. but I think you have 'Golden Queen'... I can't find a picture right now of that one, but that's what I think you've got, if you look online for photos..

Borderline, it is a new raised bed and so possibly the soil is a bit rich at the moment.
Marlorena, the Sterntaler looks lovely as a border in your picture.

I have looked at the photos on Wikipedia and the RHS website and I think you are both correct in your assumption.  Reading the notes, it does looks as though the soil is a bit rich for it but I will see how it does this year.
Thank you both for your interest.
