Squirrels opened bags of compost

Hi,

I had some.squirrels open all my sealed bags of compost which I had bought from the garden center

Is this usual?

I have had a squirrel problem before but this has been mitigated by growing things indoors

Anything I can do ?

Have you got anywhere you can store it that they can't access?
I appreciate you've probably thought of that!
Even a cupboard on your house?
I haven't heard of that though - are you sure it's squirrels?

I have not seen them. But known to have squirrels regularly and foxes ocassionaly but the size of the hole is about 6cm. There was 6 bags and at least one hole in each one

Ok anything I can do in the future apart from just put the bags in the greenhouse and get rid of the foxes although I have not seen any in the last couple of weeks.

I agree with @B3, I have foxes and a squirrel and find the fox is more likely to shred bags (had a good footle in my bag of manure!) and the squirrel just digs mostly in pots.

My brother gave me three really large plastic trugs with lids and as long as I remember to put a couple of bricks on the top it seems to work.

Have you got any holly? Poke some twigs around and into the bags, that shouls deter them.

I'd agree @daniel123- it's more likely to be foxes.
If you can put them in your greenhouse, that should  work perfectly.  The foxy fellow should find it tricky to get in - unless you leave the door open!:)
