Hanging baskets from seed

given the circumstances we face now, can anyone tell me am I too late to plant my own hanging baskets from seed ? 3rd April    I normally just like petunias so not complicated mixes

    It's not too late to sow petunia seeds, providing you can get hold of some  :)

    I got some petunia seeds for a friend in Wilkinson only 50p worth a try.

    Petunia from seed are very slow growing. Have you tried online from companies like Dobies, Suttons Marshalls for plug plants. These companies still seem to be delivering. I've received two deliveries from Dobies the last two weeks.

    Why not try something different maybe nasturtiums they are easy peasy or I did one with herbs last year? I have never had any luck with petunias from seeds myself but it’s worth a try I suppose?

    I sowed some lobelia that were lurking in my seed box a couple of weeks ago but they haven't germinated yet and to be honest, even if they grow I'll be surprised if they flower before August. I've also taken some cuttings off a small-leaved ivy and there's plenty of cutting material on my purple tradescantia houseplants, which I often add to baskets for something a bit different. It might be foliage baskets this year! I might also cut back the winter pansies and give them a feed to see if they'll keep going, instead of chucking them out. I have some saved seed of Ipomea which might climb up the chains.  Not sure what else but I'm sure I'll find something.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
