sunny border

Hello all,

Currently digging over some lawn space to create a border for my front garden under a Bay window about 5meters long and 1 meter depth. I want to plant some flowers, it gets a lot of sun 🌞 approximately 8 hours a day when it decides to arrive. The soil type is dry/clay. Im thinking of bloomtime geraniums as they like any soil type and a lot of sun and will stay fairly low and would fill the border nicely. Any advise on what would work well with this flower as a companion?

Thanks

Hi @Sharronwildman- excuse my ignorance, but what are bloomtime geraniums?
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

'Bloomtime' is the name of a new hardy geranium @Fairygirl. It is another to add the wide range we have. Dianthus and violas would work well with them @Sharronwildman

Ah - not one I've heard of - thank you for clarifying :)
Are you looking for all perennials, or do you want something more structural to go with them?
Some verticals would  also be good - some of the 'daisy' plants like Rudebeckia, or Helenium, if you want a bit of contrast, or you could use some of the white ones -Leucanthemums, to keep it more gentle.
Don't forget bulbs for winter into spring, and then beyond with alliums perhaps  :)

I was thinking more perennials, I can't have anything with to much height as its mostly under a Bay window, I've got some rudebeckia growing from seed at the moment so that could be an option. What about salvia? @Fairygirl

It sounds a bit like the soil in my front garden, under windows,  full sun for most of the morning.
Shrubby salvias are very happy there "Royal Bumble" is a good one. Also lavenders, trifoleum rubens or ochroleucon,  do very well.

Yes - salvias should be a good option too  :)
