Escallonia?
Carmarthenshire (mild, wet, windy). Loam over shale, very slightly sloping, so free draining. Mildly acidic or neutral.

That is a huge leap from Escallonia..... to deciding it is Escallonia Donards Seedling...
there are many wonderful named Escallonia with deep pink/.red flowers.
