Sweet woodruff vs ground elder

  • These photos show my Sweet Woodruff growing in a very shady, dry area which is totally inaccessible for me to get at to weed. It's no bother at all, and if it does roam to where it's not wanted it's easily pulled out.

If yu can get a clump of woodruff from someone it should take pretty rapidly (water it) and spread. You can then divide it and spread it around. It makes a great ground cover and is easy enough to remove in a small garden.

@yorkshirerose thank you for that - I really prefer the look of it to ground elder, although I'm aware that this may just be a control issue (ie ground elder was not invited).

@Fire thank you yes that's the hope. I sprinkled seeds around in Autumn and put in two little clumps that obviously died down over winter. Nothing appears to have come back yet, although to be fair I'm not sure I'd recognise it as a seedling.

Mine are just springing back now - it might take a while. People are often happy to give it away as it grows so freely.
