Hi Jenny, looks a bit different to me. In that thread the OP asked their neighbour if they could rebuild an existing fence that belonged to their neighbour.
Hopefully the OP gets definitive advice; IMHO if you own something you retain responsibility for it unless otherwise agreed.....which was this OP's very specific question.
The fence is on their boundary. I paid for it over 10-15 yrs ago because I had a small child and needed a secure garden. I told them I wasn't going to maintain it hense it's on their boundary. They do want a freebie..... Yet again. Its a long feathered fence so looking at a grand at least. I think I shouldn't be responsible for it as it is on their land and I told them all those years ago I wasn't responsible for it.
I think they’re just trying it on. You can tell them you’re happy to take it down but as you don’t need a fence now your children are older you won’t be erecting a new one. If they want one they can pay for one.

If you had said this in your OP it all would have made more sense
So if it's on their boundary and you have relinquished ownership, (it sounds like), presumably they can choose to remove it, although it doesn't seem like they will?
As in, it's either their fence (and their responsibility), or your fence (and your resonsibility).

Who owns the fence is crucial, where it is isn't.
