Another dead plant?

This is a Chaenomeles Pink Storm thornless rose. It looked a lot healthier when I bought it last year. Is it dead? How can I know for sure?

    Scratch a little bark off with your thumbnail . It It's green underneath, it's alive. Try a few branches in case just one or two are dead. It doesn't look dead to me.

    It has passed the test - all green! The same cannot be said for my lime tree☹

    Slightly confused (easily done) by the name, a Chaenomeles is commonly known as a Japanese Quince, which is not a thornless rose. Or is it? Is thornless rose another name for it, even though it is not?

    @Nollie. It is from the Rose family. But I’ve never heard of a thornless Chaenomeles.

    Well I have done the obvious and looked up Chaenomeles Pink Storm, and it is fruitless and thornless, so its a fruitless, thornless chaenomeles/Japanese quince, from the rose family but not a rose. Learn something new from this forum every day, @Lyn!
