Cherry blossom has soft branch

Hello I have a cherry blossom tree in garden and noticed a couple of smaller branches with no buds so assume these have died and need to be removed. However one was quite soft and even cutting near the large branch this is soft. This one particular large branch and the smaller branches on it only have a couple of buds but most don’t. Was wondering if I need to take this larger branch off but don’t really want to as it will spoil shape of tree. Any ideas appreciated

    The consensus in what I have read about dealing with diseased branches in woody garden plants is to cut back to healthy wood and to remove and burn the diseased material but I would not do this on a cherry until dry weather in the summer as outside of that time the damp conditions can favor the spread of diseases that effect cherry trees. Tools used should also be cleaned to avoid them being a route for transferring the disease.
