I've never had much luck germinating pea seeds in soil or compost. Anything outside either rots in the damp heavy soil or is taken by mice, voles or shrews - we have a lot of all of those here.
Even the ones I sowed in individual modules placed on the highest shelf of a mini greenhouse were all robbed by some little rodent - somehow they managed to sniff them out and shin up the metal poles for their midnight feast.🤬
I now treat mine like Josusa and sprout seeds on the kitchen windowsill before transplanting into modules. I keep them in the house until a leaf or two has appeared, then they go into the unheated potting shed to grow on. Usually start hardening them off ready for planting out early May.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Here it is "one for the mouse, 1 for the crow, one to rot one to grow. Mine go in little modules, those window sill propogators, in an unheated greenhouse. I actualy lost my first lot, 2 days, I forgot to go and check them, they wilted in the heat
I start nearly all seeds inside and have been having real problems with Lusaka snap peas. Oskar and the marrowfat I grow for pea shoots just come up really fast. I've tried pre soaking some, I'll see if it helps

Make a note of what you do and when , as it'll help you for future years too. It's always very easy to forget
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
