Tree fern drooping

Hello all,

My tree fern has started to droop. It has been like this a few days. Fern face lives outside in a big pot. He’s wrapped up as it has been cold and not had our last frost yet.
I had a new frond 3 months ago but it has shrivelled up since .
As he is outside I have not watered as it has been rainy in UK. Although I have given ff a watering today.
Please advise on how I can revive fern face? I’m happy to bring him indoors if this helps.

Thank you...

Shady

From what I understand, and by no means am I an expert, Tree ferns are very thirsty plants, so my best guess is that he really wants a drink. It's surprising how little rain gets into pots, particularly if they are under the eaves. Feel the soil in the pot, down to a couple of inches and if it's not moist give him a drink. Certainly won't do any harm :)

Sorry I just re read and saw you had watered it already! Silly Billy me! Hope he perks up. I'm sure his new fronds will be lovely when they emerge. The older fronds on mine are significantly 'droopier' than the newer ones.

Thank you Fatsia. I touched the top soil but not in deep. It felt dry ish. I will move fern in the conservatory as it is v windy and I think water and humidity may help :)

Solution:water. The rain wasn’t enough. Watered a big glass on crown, half big glass on soil, big glass at bottom for the roots.
Two days and this was the result.

@shadypm tree ferns take most of the water up from the crown and trunk not the pot. A light spray with a hose on a regular basis is best though it should ok for a bit in this cooler weather.

Early emerging fronds can be nipped off by a frost but you should get a nice new set soon. A feed with any liquid fertilizer every month through summer is good too, I drizzle this over the crown and trunk. Ours has grown a foot taller in just 6 years
