Can I put turf in new vegetable trug?

Hi I was given a vegetable trug for my birthday in January and have been using time at home to set it up to use.   Have also taken up some of my lawn to make a wild flower bed.  Just wondering if I can put some of the turf into the bottom of the vegetable trug before adding further soil and compost.

Yes - providing the turf is well shorn, and you have enough depth in the trug.
Also - it may depend on what you're growing.
I'd also make sure you turn it upside down - ie grass side down, and also line the trug with plastic to prevent excess rotting.
I presume these trugs have drainage holes too?
It's good practice to make sure those don't get clogged up.  :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Bit confused by this, a trug is a small basket, woven here in Sussex, (you can get plastic ones) that you carry your garden tools or pickings in.
