Coniferous hedge cut back, advice needed

  • It's Thuja occidentalis and the fix is long and unsightly as others have said. You can selectively hedge trim it back as normal keeping the green on the outside. In subsequent years selectively prune it deeply to allow green to penetrate deeper into the canopy of the plant and work that combination year after year to slowly reclaim space. But immediately you need to trim it back.
