Reducing the hight of Raspberries Canes

ok, can any one help me on this. The new growth on my raspberries is excessive and just too tail. Can I cut the canes down to a manageable height now even though the new growth has buds on it? Thanks

But they need to be 6ft tall at least otherwise there’s little point in growing them ... so they need a sturdy support structure.

You can’t just leave them to sprawl ... in the wild they grow into a prickly mound like a blackberry bush ... they’re not self supporting.
