Greenhouse - too hot?

Hi All

Looking for some advice as a relatively new greenhouse owner.  The greenhouse is currently insulated and I have some seeds (hopefully!)germinating in a heated propagator and a heated mat.  The temperature is currently 33 degrees in there but currently nights are very cold.  I have heater which works on a timer in the night to keep the temperature about 5 degrees.  My questions are : should I turn the heated propagators off in the day as its so hot in there?  or should I remove some or all of the insulation to even things out a bit, keep the propagators on and the night heating?

Some advice appreciate

Thanks Cazza

Do your propagators have thermostats? and are you opening doors and windows during the day to reduce the heat in there?
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
  • Thanks for your quick reply.  The propagators don't have thermostats.  The roof vents open automatically but there is roof insulation underneath them and they only open a very little way.  Thats why I am thinking we should remove the insulation across the roof? I have opened the door a little, but have not opened the lower vents as again they are covered by insulation so opening them will have little effect.

What are you using for insulation? It's recommended to ventilate a greenhouse on any sunny day just to help prevent fungal problems so definitely a good idea to get some air moving through if you can.

  • Horticultural bubble wrap.  Is it time to take it all down now I wonder?
