Pruning a fig tree

I’ve inherited a fig tree in my garden,it’s not huge but has quite a bit of old fruit on it.Can I trim that off now,it has what looks like new leaf shoots coming through.

    Pick off the larger ones ... leave any small ones (smaller than your thumbnail) as they're the ones that'll grow and ripen this summer.   :)
