Grass at base of rose

Hello

I just went to do my annual rose prune and found one rose has a load of grass growing out of its roots. . Has anyone got any hints or tips on the best way to get it out without damaging the rose, it's roots and stop it coming back. It's literally coming through all sides.

It may just be a case of trying to dig it out,  but I wondered about smothering it with weed suppressant or something else. Anyone got any smart ideas please?

Thanks

Just use a hand fork to loosen the grass plants then pull, shake off excess soil and give your rose a feed.
