That’s interesting @Marlorena. I guess I’m thinking in terms of growing a rose in a pot permanently, plus pots get too hot here unless I can shade them with other things. I also have a west-facing patio to the rear of my house that I would love to grow a climbing rose up a trellis, but just assumed it was not feasible. I have a spare Warm Welcome, which is a fairly compact climber to 2m/6ft. What sort of pot size would you recommend, could I get away with a 50cm3 - roughly 15cm all-round pot or should I go bigger?

I'm not clear about your pot size there, but if it's 50cm width and depth @Nollie that should be ok for a few years... but always use a pot you can manage in case you need to root prune in the future... if it's too big it becomes unmanageable and isn't worth it..

    That is good news @Marlorena
I'll shop for a decent sized trough planter now then
    Many thanks
Just another day at the plant...

Yes, I meant 50x50x50cm @Marlorena. I would see the pot as in a permanent location as even at that size a terracotta or concrete pot is difficult to move - plastic is no good here it heats up far to quickly.

Sorry to the OP for side-tracking their thread!
