I think you just need to be aware that montanas get big, and they need to be allowed to do that to get the best from them, so they need a sturdy support. They readily cover small buildings etc As @Hostafan1 says, there's no great need to cut it right back, but you may find it necessary at some point to get it covering well, and to put in new, stronger support for it. It depends on what you want to achieve with it.
If the lower fence is sturdy enough, you might want to train it so that you have more horizontal coverage rather than letting it get too vertical. That will also spread the weight of it a bit
