I usually pronounce amelanchier with the ch from cheese, even though I know it's meant to be a 'k'.  I do love cheese though!  :D

Oh yes - he is @Obelixx. I'd forgotten that.
Scone is lovely. I pass through it quite often if I'm heading up that side [Perthshire, Glenshee, Angus etc ]  to walk.

I say it that way too @BobTheGardener. The 'k' sounds wrong doesn't it?

I usually say: "I'll have one of those."
     Saves all kinds of problems.

I’m the idiot who says scones rhyme with stones 😜. I’m not posh - I grew up in a mining village.

I have purchased flour and sultanas this weekend to make fruit scones. They’re the only ones I like.

No pronunciation ambiguity in Spanish, the rules are very clear and rigid, and there is no aaah sound, only the short a as it cat. As for Catalán, for some of the sounds it’s impossible to get an English tongue around and the pronunciation rules are variable and mysterious. Still can’t say ‘eggs’  :/
