Is there a need for a vegetable growing app?

  • And @Topbird, don't you find that you go out there to do one thing and then see something else that needs doing and you do that, either instead or as well ... a lot of gardening is about our own immediate and personal response to what we see in our gardens ... that what makes it as much an art as a science, for me at least  B)
    Was just about to make a comment about the same thing. I work with computers in my job so enjoy the fact that gardening does not regularly involve using a computer. I find out what needs to be done in the garden by walking around the garden and seeing what is happening in response to the recent weather changes etc. A computer application telling me that this is the time to plant out my whatever seeds when it might be a north easterly wind bringing in unseasonal ice and snow would be unwelcome and pointless. Gardening is enjoyable as it allows us to use our senses and observational abilities and judgement from experience to make a decision on managing our garden environment rather just doing what the computer told us to do. Not tried any gardening apps and can't see why someone would want to.

    @Dovefromabove - 😁
    I am the world's worst for nipping out for 30mins (usually in decent clothes...) to do a min-job and coming in dirty and dishevelled 2hrs later. Usually having not done the original job but half a dozen "Oh I'll just get this.." jobs instead.
    Spontaneity is part of the joy of gardening.

    I can see, however, that some people would use and enjoy this type of App. It's just not for me. Doesn't make it wrong for those that like that sort of thing.

    Just for the record I really love gadgets and technology. Gardening just falls into a completely different category for me.

    Dovefromabove -  As a descendant of Pulham Market farming stock I didn't set out to upset anyone, merely trying to reflect the general negative response.  I'm sorry I didn't achieve that.  Apologies anyway.

    I have no smart phone, just a mobile that I can ring people on, and I have no involvement in social media which probably brands me a 'Luddite' if anyone is.  There are advantages in growing old as one knows how things can be done, but can equally assess whether the trendy 'must have' is valid.

    I try, where possible, to protect the gullible from those who insist things are done in a particular way but I've clearly made a poor start.

    No problem @nickten and as I said, welcome 😊

    We could’ve been ‘almost neighbours’ ... I spent 25 years living only about 10 miles from Pulham Market and my children had many school friends who came from there 😊  I know the area well. 👍

    I'm also an app dev. I think it would be a nice idea providing it worked perfectly. If it didn't and people lose their data and have to start again from scratch (like often happens when some apps are updated) you know they'd be looking to hunt you down and turn you into fertilizer.
