Chayote - how do I grow?

I have got a chayote from someone who wanted to grow it but has no greenhouse. It is sprouting and the sprout is about 50 cms long. I want to grow it on so would be grateful to know how to pot it up and what sort of compost to use. I use pots or grobags in the greenhouse. Also, it will need supporting eventually. How would I do that? We are in the Midlands and the chayote was grown in an ordinary domestic greenhouse in Bournemouth. Am I likely to succeed?

It will need a good, deep pot with rich compost and a warm climate in which to grow.  It will also need supports because it's a climber and adequate moisture and humidity to keep it happy as well as plenty of light.

If you can give it all this you may get some edible fruits by August or September.

Thanks for the help with this and the warnings about space needed. My plant is now growing in a big pot and looking healthy. Not sure where it will go eventually though!
