Wooden planters untreated and drenched!

Hi all, found a great deal on some wooden crates I want to upcycle to planters. Theyve been heated to dry them out. I got them on a lovely sunny day but they're soaked from the rain. How long do I wait for them to dry before painting them? It seems it's going to rain for a whole month! I've covered them in plastic but it's not really working.
Thanks!

Hi @neeta33. Timber can take a while to dry out properly. Do you have nowhere like a shed or garage to store them until spring?

Thanks, my shed is too small for them. Could have 1 in the house and the other in the shed possibly. Then will I need to wait til they are completely dry before painting I guess? Wish I hadn't got them now!

    They'll be great  :)
To be honest, you could still carry on and plant them up, because they'll need a lining [old compost bags are good] and then paint them up once consistent drier weather is here, but if you can get them undercover it's worth doing, and is probably the best solution  :)

@Fairygirl thank you! I went to b&q and just bought a plastic sheet to cover them for now. Got the paint ready for when its eventually dry 😊

Good stuff. Hopefully they'll dry out over the next few weeks or so. They'll probably need a few coats of paint to get the desired effect.
It's always a good idea to line them anyway, as it helps to preserve them for longer.

    Enjoy using them  :)
