Charlottes chitting but a bit green

NewBoy2NewBoy2 Posts: 1,813
I bopught some Charlottes to eat but set out 10 of them in the egg box in the conservatory and they have been chitting nicely

Just noticed the tops are a bit green. I kept them in sunlight ....stupid Newboy.

I realise we should not eat green potatoes but if I plant them will that affect / effect the resulting crop.ie make them poisonous.

Not stupid at all, potatoes should be chitted in the light. If you do it in the dark you get those long white shoots that break easily. What you want is the short green shoots that you have now. Yes the potatoes will turn green, that's just them making a bit of extra energy it will not affect the potatoes you dig up and eat at all.

You won't be cropping the seed potato but it's babies and they are protected by earthing up to keep off the light and encourage formation of more tubers.
