I had a wander around that garden at Wisley and the topiary that looked most pleasing to me was the Osmanthus Burkwoodii. They also did some interesting things with Pittosporum (and I have a Pittosporum golf ball which is nice and rounded, although quite loose in structure) and Leptospermum Grandiflorum, depending on which colours work best for you. I've just bought some Euonymus japonicus Microphyllus, which is a lovely rich green colour - low growing though. I wasn't keen on Ilex Crenata - too much stem and too little leaf for me.
I planted lots of little box plants around last year. I'm going to let them grow but am slowly building up my supply of euonymus to replace them when the inevitable happens (and hope that they don't all succumb to scale).
