I'm certain I had it at the same time @Dovefromabove.  In total I was ill for 12 weeks.  All of that time I had a hacking cough, lost my sense of taste and smell, exhaustion (at one point 100 yards was like a marathon) and awful aches and pains.  Other members of the family had minor symptoms.  The doctor prescribed inhalers and although he couldn't find any infection he gave me antibiotics as a last resort.  I was booked in for lung function tests and xrays and was waiting for the appointments when the first news items started popping up about a new virus in China.  I never went for the tests because the appts were cancelled.  I still think I am more tired than I used to be and my sense of taste and smell haven't really returned.

If you all did indeed have Covid at the latter end of 2019 and early 2020 it seems that the virus has been around far longer than thought and that the Chinese were possibly supressing/denying the fact that this was a serious threat. It could also account for the speed at which the virus became so well dispersed over the entire globe.

I agree @madpenguin ... I think there were several established pockets of infection around the country by the time we all became aware of it.
The person I caught it from had spent a few days visiting in Yorkshire before meeting me in Norwich. Her friends who died were in Yorkshire.

It is of course conceivable that the Chinese did not know they had it, at that time.

Even if they did know they probably didn't automatically think 'We'd better tell the world this is going to go global'  I suspect they would have tried to sort it out themselves first.  As would most countries.

How do people get away with it? No arrests, but policemen injured? If that had occurred in a poor district of any town I think the outcome may have been subtly different.

A little ditty by the ever absent Roman Abramovich?

  • The acute loss of taste and smell is a definitive symptom & was first highlighted by contributions to the Zoe covid tracker app.  It took the Gov't months to accept it as an official symptom.
