I am sorry but the Press is really not being alarmist  [ and without being too arrogant, this is an area I have some expertise in ], this is potentially a major disaster.
There are already examples of patients who have become re infected, and perhaps surprisingly the virus has not mutated yet. If it does................

I am finding it utterly incredulous that people are still being allowed to flit the globe via air or sea ; their apparently implacable desire for foreign holidays posing an increasing risk to everyone else . All travel abroad , unless absolutely necessary should be banned .
Personally I think that all suspected cases should be isolated until this is sorted out once and for all .
Daily in the UK new infections are being reported ; I have an appointment at Hull Royal Infirmary at the end of March (just under four-weeks) . At this rate I will probably cancel because by that time maybe a hospital is not the ideal place to be !
Just stop watching the news and you’ll find that life is just fine.

    Attend hospital as is required.

Have you had the normal flu vaccine?

Think it depends on which press you read ... the way it’s being reported varies widely.

It is alarning to read that infected patients in main stream Chinese hopsitals are being treated with Traditonal Chinese Medicine (TCM); perhaps including pangolian scales - to induce strength.

I probably need to take a bit more care than some, but I don't think I would fly at the moment.

@punkdoc What UK scenario do you forsee as most likely?

I could imagine a month or so of the equivalent to the 2009 snows - stay close to home, take no avoidable risks, look out for vulnerable neighbours, maybe schools close for a bit...  Is it reassuring that affected numbers in China seem to be falling steadily?

As the Chinese refused to believe there was a problem in early December, its amazing there are as few outbreaks as there has been.
There are teams of specialists working round the clock, and have been for a couple of months now, trying to find an inoculation that will help those severely affected. I know as daughters friend is one of them.

Flu is a bigger killer. We don't close borders at flu season or enforce seasonal vacs.

It's got to get a lot worse before travel bans are imposed. By that time, the virus should be understood more

If you want to know who to blame, it’s a society that repeatedly elects governments that promise to bring down taxes rather than being honest about what it costs to run a proper National a Health System, free at the point of use, for all of us who contribute to it.
I totally agree. For 60 years prior to the Thatcher governments the basic rate of income tax was 30% or higher. I would have no issue with the level being raised to 22.5 or 25% if there was a promise that money would be spent on the NHS and nothing else.
