Hi, I'm wanting to cut back Spirea Anthony Waterer, Vibernum Tinus and two Spirea's (white and pink flowers in summer). Can I do it now or should I wait a bit longer. Tinus is still flowering. Thanks..
I'm inthe NE, my Spireas get a haircut at this time of year. Mine, were cut back to about 4inches from soil level last week, I've never had a problem doing that. Can't help with Viburnum
Cut back the Spirea Antony Waterer has hard back as you like it flowers on this years growth. The White flowering Spirea is another matter they are Spring / earlier summer spirea ( arguta is common ) which are pruned differently, if you are sure it a summer / late then prune the same as Antony.
I trim the Viburnum back after its finished flowering but you will lose the black berries.
All good advice. With Viburnum Tinus, you can prune them anytime from spring onwards if it's just to change the shape or control size. Bear in mind, if you cut all the stems back in one go, as explained, you will lose the flowers and berries for a year.
