    Oh yes, I agree with that Dove.
     Hostafan and his OH,  you and yours, Philippa and hers,   And someone who I have never met but write to by email every few days and have done for about 6 years now.

    Apart from daily exchanges of news, fun and info with folk on here I also have daily email exchanges with a group of friends from the old GW boards.  There are 2 I've never met but 2 more I've at Chelsea, Tatton, Harlow Carr and Malvern and we've all been nattering for 13 or 14 years now.

    Not offended at all @pansyface ... being pragmatic doesn’t make friendships any less important 🤗  it’s not the quantity of life that’s most important ... it’s the quality.

    I'm a postman and sometimes we are the only person Granny Smith sees all day. I always take the time when I can, despite the time constraints we are under now.

    One thing is for sure, we all get old! We should really respect our senior members of "society" a bit more.

    On another note I love how she saved the lady that £200. Postal scams are terrible, and that was from the water company.

    Good for you @andybfc5 😊 ... another reason why we should write letters or even just send a brief newsy note on a picture postcard. 😊

    The only person I see is the postman, except Wednesday when Tesco brings my delivery.

    When my dad had his dog, he wouldn’t let him even wee in the garden so took him out several times a day, the dog died and after 2 years someone knocked on the door and asked if the old boy was ok as they hadn’t seen him with the dog for while!

    An old friend from school was found dead in his flat in his 30s. They reckoned he'd died 3 months earlier and it was only the smell which made folk suspicious.

    We have widowed and divorced ladies in the patch club.  For one or two of them whose families live elsewhere we are the only people they see all week so we check up on any absentees and we help out when people are sick or need operations.   The local council recognises the value of clubs like ours with an almost entirely retired membership so we get to have our weekly meeting room for no rent.   Youth activities are also encouraged and supported.   It's all about social cohesion.

    Obelixx sounds like our town could learn a lot from yours. Ours is a relatively new town grown from a once tiny village. Seems to me that the town has grown too fast and totally without cohesion between the folks living in it. The only clubs are those for specific ethnic groups, so that really does not help people meet and live better together. I’ve found great friends online, but how wonderful it would also be to have a physical connection too.
    Marne la vallée, basically just outside Paris 🇫🇷, but definitely Scottish at heart.

    The patch club is in Olonne @Jacquimcmahon but the Franco British club based in our much smaller local town also gets free use of the hall when it needs it as does the over 60s club in our village.   I do a mosaic class in La Roche in one of the "maison de quartier" which is also run by the council and lets out rooms for disabled groups, arty groups, youth groups and oldies at special rates or free depending on the activity and catchment.    The Vendée gardening club gets use of a public domain - former chateau grounds - for its annual spring fair.

    I'm sure there are many lonely people in France but it's not because there's nothing to do and nowhere to meet up.   Maybe have a chat with your mayor about starting something round a general interest such as gardening or walking, rather than racial origins.
