Pruning Cob Nut Trees

How do I prune a 20 year old overgrown Cob Nut Tree

    When you say prune what do you want to achieve with the tree at the moment? You can coppice the tree right down to just above ground level but that might not give the result you're after. Coppicing gives quite bushy regrowth and is useful for creating stems for bean poles and increasing the nut harvest but if you want to keep it as a tree then it needs a different approach.
    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    I recently reduced the size of my cob nut tree, but not so much as to affect the nut crop. The squirrels get all the nuts before I do of course.. I find them buried all over the place!

    The squirrels have been strangely absent here this Autumn and the hazels have had a really heavy crop. I got all these from one tree and I left quite a few for the wildlife

    @wild edges WOW!!! Our hazels gave us a great crop 2 years ago and then nothing. Well I mean nothing for us as the squirrels got the lot.
    We do coppice every year one of the hazels and allow the others to grow.
