How and when to prune buddleia

  I would not bother until they get to a decent size, but they grow quickly so that will not be long. Pruning is really only to control the size. You can actually prune them in Autumn or Winter, they will not be harmed.

  Hi and welcome to the Forum.
  I'd prune each stem back to a pair of buds further down, it'll encourage a bushier plant.

  I'd also do a little trim just now, but to be honest @yvonne.r1969, it won't matter much either way.
  They grow so quickly, that in a few years time you'll be hacking them back to keep them in the space you have them 

  It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

  I hope your young plants are not the common purple variety because it is now registered as a pernicious weed. It will grow anywhere, spreads rapidly by self sown seedlings and can put 6 feet of growth on each year once established. A nightmare in a small garden.

  They are white. I know, they grow everywhere. Often see them growing  out of walls etc. My neighbours have one thats about 10 foot tall that borders my back garden. Iv taken to controlling it as soon as any of it come over my fence
