Soil mix for raised beds

I am building another raised bed and would welcome advice on the % mix of top soil, well rotted stable manure, leaf mould and horticultural grit. I have lots of each. I do not think I have any home made compost ready for use at the moment but will top dress the bed with it annually in autumn. Thank you.

It depends on what you want to grow.

French beans and lettuce this season. Various vegetables in the future.

  • Hi @BenCotto , I'd use 60% topsoil, 30% well-rotted manure and 10% leafmould in a raised bed for those veggies and would avoid the grit in case you want to grow carrots in the future.
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
