    "tenners in the laundry."
Can't remember the last time I had a tenner.... :D

My bill is set up to be paid by DD. Simple. If it didn't give me anything back, I wouldn't have it. I don't get much on it now though, but I'm not a big spender anyway.

@B3 - had it been washed though?  Perhaps the 'owner' was unclear on the term 'money laundering'  :D
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I only use cash. If I have it, I know I have it to spend. This contactless stuff just seems like the road to financial chaos for the average person, unless they ask for a receipt every time and are very well organised with spreadsheets and budgets.

I wander around town with my cash, and sometimes it’s a real advantage. The other day, I was in a queue in a shop and the usual wail went up “the computer’s gone down”. Everybody else in the queue had credit cards and debit cards but no cash. They all stood there as if someone had pulled their life support machines out. I stepped forward with my item, presented the exact money to the cashier, wished them good day and walked out of the shop with my purchase.

I’m in two minds about this story:

While I sympathise with the ex-manager’s complaint about the aesthetics, the fact that she is dealing with decimal currency is itself a bit of a problem.

And what about other missing “authentic” details? Are the sweeties still 1d a dozen? Have they been handled by non-health and safety trained shopkeepers who have hacking coughs and no access to hot water? Is the counter occasionally wiped down by a germ-infested rag? All these questions. I was born long after the Victorian era (you’ll be pleased to know) and they could have applied to my childhood shopping experiences.
I wonder if she'd like the shop to be lit by gas and have no heating??
    Devon.

I spy a plastic tub there too.
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • The "sells everything" shop in my town here in Ireland only deals in cash.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
