Rose Cuttings In Pots

Hello everyone. I took some Rose cuttings last autumn which have been sitting in my cold frame ever since. How long do they usually take to root? When should I be looking to pot them on? I’m new to taking cuttings so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Unless roots are coming out of the bottom of the pot, I would leave it. It will probably be ready to transplant next autumn.  In my experience, they take about a year. Keep it watered and out of direct sunlight.
  • I agree with @pansyface and @fidgetbones 👍

  • Thanks so much for the advice I’ll leave them and see how we go but they’re not looking too healthy so I’m not hopeful ☹️ They’ve been fine until this week. 😢

  • This is them.

I would expect the leaves to die off. You can trim them off if you want.  One is showing signs of die back, but may shoot from ground level.  I generally expect two out of three to make it.
  • Thank you so much its reassuring to know that they’re not all a total lost cause! This is the first time I’ve ever taken cuttings so I really appreciate all the advice.
  • Thanks! I came on to ask the same question. I have four healthy cuttings in pots so I'll follow the advice and leave till Autumn.
