    Liz, I use vinegar for weedkilling.  Esp during lockdown.

    Since February, it's probably now finished, right or wrong.  I can only add: it looks like beech.  And no one has said: check the original soil level, return it to that is necessary.

    I have noticed that beech trees in a ditch steadily accumulate leafmould each year.  So they can cope, but very slowly.

    @bede … not only was it February … it was February LAST YEAR!  
    Now I understand that the Euros  and Olympics may have confused you 😂  … but the date is there for all to see.
