A couple of dogs here, they even bark at us when we come in,and they do sound fierce. Do people actually sit on the beach watching who comes to their front door when they are away at work or on holidays?

    A bit left field perhaps,
Funny just when you think you have a handle on someone they throw you a wobbly! So you like NFL analogies AB? Are you a fan?

@Allotment Boy said: Look at motorcycle security products,  there's a range of items under the standard " sold secure". If you have things like mowers, and other high value items, you lock them together and lock them to something solid, it stops them just picking things up and carrying them away.  These products are guaranteed to resist an angle grinder for a minimum time to achieve the standard.  As has been said the aim is to make it difficult so they go elsewhere.
Agree with all but the grinder - most battery models with be through a chain in minutes. I have a video of three thieves stealing my truck that had the steering wheel chained and padlocked - it runs for two minutes 40 secs - for them to gain entry, grind the chain and programme a new key in the socket thoughtfully provided by Ford!!!
My old yard was burgled - the thieves brought a skip lorry and a cut-off saw and opened seacontainers like Spam tins.

When we were in Italy staying with friends we were looking on the iPad at images of the garden on CCTV, watching two badgers trundling across the lawn. Beppe was impressed, “Did you buy them?” he asked. Sure, Beppe, Badgers R Us; buy one get one free.

You maybe able to add an extra zone with a wireless sensor of some sort to your existing house alarm.
