Wisteria

I want to grow a wisteria on a South facing house wall . This side of the house has a path along it so I can't plant into it - solid concrete! Could I plant a wisteria on the east facing corner and train the growth onto the south wall ? I know the stems need full sun to flower but can the roots take less sun?
Many thanks

  • Yes, Wisteria is very vigorous and will very happily go around a corner and cover a house!

The east facing position for the roots will help keep them more moist too. Less likely to dry out in summer. Best of both worlds.

Mine is on a west wall so only has afternoon sun. I don't think they need full sun all day to flower.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
