Herbs for shade?

We have a large planter which is placed under a tree and I'd like to fill it with suitable herbs (edible rather than medicinal) - any suggestions?  Thank you

    Herbs and aromatic plants generally like dry warmth.  But mint will grow, and grow, in most places.  You can find lots of different varieties with different smells:  pineapple, spearmint, eau de cologne etc.  But some people say if they are grown too close together, they all start to smell the same.

    Chervil likes shade - gentle aniseedy flavour which is very good with fish.  Parsley does well in shade and so does coriander - as long as you get their watering right.  Not too dry.  Chives will also do well.   Mints are fine too but, as Josusa says, only one in each pot or planter and not in neighbouring pots as they lose their identity.

    IT does but may be a bit too vigorous for a planter.   I had it in my last garden and was constantly pulling up the spares before they took over the world.

    I've grown lovage in shade.  It might be a bit big for a planter though...
    Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

    I asked about the difficulty of growing different mints close together when I visited Jekka McVicar's farm.  Apparently it's the roots that make the difference so planted in pots about a foot apart is fine. I have done this with mine and so far so good.

    I had a collection of over a dozen mints in my last garden, all in pots and all gathered together.  Even with separate roots they seemed to lose their distinctiveness so now I only have ginger mint, Moroccan mint and peppermint all still in pots but kept separate.  There is also wild apple mint growing all over the place in the grass.   Fab smell when mowing.
