Low maintenance plants for new 2 acre garden

I am just starting to plant a new 2 acre lawn area at the rear of a residential cluster which has a bank of rubble and soil from the development at the right hand side which I propose to cover with a good quality topsoil and plant with maintenance free colourful plants/ shrubs
To the rear is an old cut back whitethorn hedge with gaps and spaces adjoining a 12 acre green field
i am think of plant something in front of the whitethorn hedge
All suggestions and ideas are welcome

Seeing it's waterlogged, I'd plant some thirsty willows and alders, which like such conditions.
  • Thanks
I’m not sure that it normally holds the water. It is just that the new lawn was seeded last autumn and I took the photos yesterday after hours of torrential rain with storm Denis
  • I think I'd plant more native hedging in front of the hawthorn - making a really thick hedge, great for birds.  Blackthorn, elder, guelder rose, dog rose, more hawthorn maybe.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
