rose advice please

HI,  Could anybody advise me if it is at all possible to train a climbing rose along a 4' high picket fence?  The fence is around 8' wide.  I was hoping to cover the fence with it overhanging either side.  Am I being unrealistic??

    Seems feasible to me as long as you don't pick a monster and train all its stems horizontally as it won't have space to go up..

    Hello Hilary,

    Yes it should be possible, choose a rose with flexible canes that you can bend and tie in to near horizontal, so not a stiff-caned climbing hybrid tea, for example. The rose in this photo is Stormy Weather, which I have bought bare root and intend to train along a 4ft high fence, hoping to get a similar effect:
