Pot size for Christmas Trees

Hi, Would anyone be able to help me with some advice on the correct pot size for planting Christmas trees please?

I am looking at planting 15-20cm bareroot Nordmann Fir trees, I realise that I will need to increase the pot size each year as they grow, but would anyone have any advice on the correct pot size to start with please?

Many thanks

  • I've never grown Nordmann firs, but I think the size of pot will depend on the size of the rootball.  Some tree roots are quite inflexible and your pot depth will have to accommodate this.  Best to use loam-based compost, and a pot which doesn't swamp the roots or cramp them, and then pot on regularly.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
