A goup 1 and 3 clematis together

berardeberarde Posts: 147
I fancy clematis Annabella or  Oberon, but can't decide which, so I'm thinking of having them close together as this also gives me spring and a summer flowerer together and Oberon is frangrant too. As Oberon is group 1 and Annabella group 3 , is this likely to be a problem? The space is 6 ft high and 3.5 feet wide but there is more room to spread onto the gate
thanks

Yes, it's a problem because you won't know which stems to prune back hard in March (group 3) and which to leave to flower.  The space is too small anyway for 2 clematis.

I would choose one. Cutting back will be a PITA if you plant both. Pick a less vigorous variety.
