Delphiniums are early

My delphiniums suddenly made a show last week (last week in January) and are around 10 inches high. I am worried they are two months early. Does anyone know if I Should I cut them back ? Or just leave them.

  • I have noticed a few young delphiniums in my garden too, and sure enough they were getting nibbled by slugs already. I have put those wooly slug pellets around them - which do seem to be working. They definitely protect the young plants from slugs but hopefully will also help the young shoots to survive cold spells.
On the picture it looks like there is a lot of pellets but actually they expand when wet:

  • Thanks for the messages yes I agree I don’t think we can do much about it due to the mild winter, fingers crossed we don’t have a harsh frost.
