Not judging ... just bemused ... why make life so complicated when you can sit on a bench in the marketplace and drink your takeaway coffee instead of tripping up the steps into WH Smith’s and knocking me flying ‘cos you’re trying to do too many things at once ... good job I bounced 😉
I once heard an orthopedic consultant say that after ‘a certain age’ it was as well to have well-padded hips 😂 🙄

It's a bit rude to say walking around with a cuppa is a fad... it's nice, a pleasant thing to drink, brings a bit of comfort and joy to one's morning.
It is a fad. Before disposable cups you had to sit at a cafe to have your drink or have one at home. Now everyone is too important and busy to sit down or, god forbid, go without. How many billions of disposable cups need to go into landfill or the sea before you feel that people might need to rethink this idea?

As for tap water; my wife couldn't drink it while she was pregnant either due to sickness and now while breastfeeding she drinks litres of fluid each day. Filtering the water helps if you can't stand the taste but finding an eco friendly filter is a nightmare too.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

My dear late Mother said it was common to eat or drink outside in a public place. I'm realising that she was right.

  • It depends on out experiences of coffee consumption, I was born and grew up in Athens. We've always had a coffee shop culture and seen as an opportunity to take a moment out of your day to enjoy it and even have a chat with a friend. The whole I have to carry a coffee everywhere is a recent development.  So I do enjoy when they make a total exhibition of themselves...no malice involved just wonder if they're terrible at time management or just like juggling so many tasks at the same time. I bet a "self care specialist" will tell them soon to take a moment off and enjoy that expensive drink. Anyway if we all found the same things amusing the world would be a very boring place.

@amancalledgeorge, I totally agree. Sitting in a coffee shop, café  having a break, chatting etc is great, I agree with you on the carrying coffee bit is ridiculous.
Are these folk trying to say? , "I need a coffee , but I'm SOOOOOOOOO busy and SOOOOOOOOOO important I don't even have time to sit down and drink it."

We get folk discard empty cup on shelves in the shop. Too flippin' idle to find a bin.

Being a man, I find it impossible to drink and walk at the same time, multi-tasking is not for me.

Am I the only person who has never once been unable to complete a shopping trip without the need for caffeine?
Normally I can't wait to get the heck away from the shops and go home where I'm happy to make my own tea. ( for a lot less than £3a cup)

I've never walked around carrying a cup of coffee, I think it must be a generation 'thing'. I do enjoy an occasional coffee in a café whilst shopping or travelling, although OH doesn't much. I don't eat in the street either (ice cream on holiday excepted), like Hosta says, our mothers always said it was 'common'. That was a long time ago though and habits have changed.

I love my coffee, but I really don't enjoy any of the large chains offerings.
