Hi, I use chicken manure pellets spread over the beds and a seaweed feed. The one non organic feed that I used was a high nitrogen lawn feed that I fed my bamboos with. I will probably switch to an organic one this year. I also add a lot of compost and soil improver to the beds and mulch with an organic compost.
One element that I would quite like to add this year is a path running from the patio to the dug out area and or the stepping stones, back left. Can't quite figure out the direction it would take though.!
I also plan to cement the cobble stones in place around the dug out area to create a wall (it's half built as a test at the moment. But not very safe when I have a toddler exploring the garden.! supervised of course.!
The new patio is unfortunately going to have to wait another year, as I doubt it will be in my budget..
I've just read the whole of this thread, you've done such a good job! It's a huge transformation from what it was! I like the sunken area you've made at the end.
We also have the dog pee issue, I've given up on our lawn as a lost cause. Unfortunately ours pees up my plants too and our garden is far too small for a dedicated pee area
A couple of weeks ago when we had the nice weather I dug out a new border..over time it will create a little forest walk pathway on the right hand side. Well that's the plan.
Today I aerated the lawn with a fork and scarified it using a scarifier I bought from screwfix for £69. It worked really well and I got rid of so much rubbish and thatch from the lawn. It's looking a bit thin, patchy and sorry for itself now but I'll overseed and top dress when this cold spell passes. Hopefully it should look good this year.
I also bought a large auger drill bit and have been drilling 2ft deep holes in the lawn (my neighbours must think I'm crazy if they've seen me.) I remove the soil/compacted clay from the holes and swapp it for a organic matter/soil/gravel/sandy mix that I've made up. It should help with drainage and overall health of the lawn over time
I am planning on turfing over these couple of areas that I have roughly edited in the photo below, I have added a new border and I think the design looks better if it's filled in (also will get a bit of lawn back.!)
Fascinating how your garden has developed. I can imagine strolling through and seeing something interesting every time. Also love it how you're bold with your design because you know exactly what you want. Thanks for sharing

A few days ago I planted:
Magnolia Insignis
Daphniphyllum macropodum / Japan
Trochodendron aralioides/ Taiwan
They will get quite large, but we'll see, I really want to give the garden a more enclosed and private feel
I'll take some photos tomorrow
