Hi guys, Thanks a lot for the comments, I'm glad you like seeing updates. I don't have a huge amount to report, garden made it through the heat wave, and it's loving the downpours we have been having the last few days. The lawn is starting to recover, I need to give it an autumn feed soon.
I'll try and get some photos around the garden showing some of the different plants that I have. It's hard to see details from the bedroom window shot.!
Frosty!! Garden has had lows of about -3 or -4. I have wrapped the bananas in fleece and added a fleece bag. Added some extra mulch over cannas and some other plants. Most of the plants should be ok..
I think if I am most likely to loose a plant it could be my Schefflera macrophylla, which I hope isn't the case as its a really nice one that I got from Crug farm. We'll see.
I finally managed to get my hands on a Rhododendron sinogrande. I have planted it in the middle border behind the large palm. Definitely worth a google image search if you haven't seen one before. Incredible plant with huge leaves. I saw some great specimens at Abbotsbury sub tropical gardens in Weymouth over the summer.
I guess it could be spring when I next post, so I'll see you all then and try and get some individual shots of some of the more interesting plants that I have,
Well change of plans...I've removed the old patio slabs (the original sand makes it look like they are still there!) and have started removing some lawn as I am preparing the area to lay a cobblestone patio and path down the right hand side. It's going to be a bit of a slow long job as I'll be doing it myself, but I'm looking forward to getting it finished by spring hopefully.. I'm currently trying to design the shape that I'd like. I'm trying to continue the curved theme, if anyone has any ideas.! The border on the right infront of the bamboos will probably get extended a bit and the area by the large palm in the middle.
I have really enjoyed reading this and seeing your progress with the garden. It is amazing the difference from when it was just a blank square of grass! Good luck with sorting out your patio.
@newprojectgarden I think if you continue with the deep curves you will be successful. I would be a little careful working in frosty conditions you can do long term damage to both a lawn and your soil structure. You obviously love your plants and I agree it would be good to make the border bigger, even much bigger. Then you will have an area of interest that cannot be seen from the house once the plants mature. As time goes on I do think you will be increasing your plant collection ,as you are obviously a very keen gardener. I would keep that in mind too. Your garden will certainly be moving on to the next level and there is nothing more rewarding than being able to say 'all my own work'. Just a thought is there an opportunity to plant nearer to the house that always works well I don't paint but it is somthing to do with the perspective? Light airy plants might work.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.

Take care,
looks like your neighbours have made progress with their pergola!
